Hello New York,
Happy Fall 2016, I can’t believe the summer is over. I have been to quite a few parties, road trips, special events this summer but this past two weekends was all about motorcycles with some of the best bike events in town. I took my girl Thea, the Boston Terrier, on our first Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and witness 500+ dapper riders taking over Manhattan and Brooklyn for a great ride, hang and to bring awareness for men’s health on this charity ride. I had so much fun and will definitely participate again next year!

This Thursday August 11, This Is Our Music and Le Poisson Rouge bring you HERBIE HANCOCK live at Prospect Park Bandshell with Robert Glasper Experiment. “In addition to being recognized as a legendary pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every jazz movement since the 1960s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet, he became one of the pioneers of the avant garde sound. His recordings during the ’70s combined electric jazz with funk and rock sounds in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music. “Rockit” and “Future Shock” marked Hancock’s foray into electronic dance music and included several chart-topping hits; during the same period he continued to work in an acoustic setting with V.S.O.P., which included ex-Miles Davis bandmates Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams. Hancock has received an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score and 14 Grammy Awards, including Album Of The Year for “River: The Joni Letters” and two 2011 Grammy Awards for his recently released globally collaborative CD, “The Imagine Project.” Many of his compositions, including “Canteloupe Island,” “Maiden Voyage,” “Watermelon Man,” and “Chameleon,” are modern standards that have had a profound effect on all styles of modern”

Herbie video

In addition to all the fun festivals, shows, and parties going on this month, we are personally very excited to attend the Slackers concert cruise on Friday August 26, presented by Rocksoff.  The only thing better than seeing a band you love is to see them on a boat while cruising around the iconic landmarks and skylines of NYC.  You can get tickets HERE and be sure to check out http://www.rocksoff.com/ for all their upcoming shows, we can’t wait!

“If there exists a more entertaining and engaging live band to ever come out of New York City than The Slackers, we have never seen or heard of them. They are an insanely awesome mix of reggae, rock steady, ska, and soul music. If you can’t have fun at a Slackers concert then you suck at life. The last time we saw saw someone frowning at a Slackers concert was never. Rocks Off honcho Jake likes to tell people that in the unlikely event he were to ever get married, the Slackers would be the band he would hire for his wedding. All Aboard and Anchors Away!!!!”

——————————————-

Bootie NYC pays tribute to two of today’s modern divas, by having them battle it out at the club for mashup pop supremacy – it’s Britney vs. Taylor! We’ll be spinning the greatest songs Britney Spears and Taylor Swift have ever created, and giving them the Bootie treatment, mashing them up with anybody and everybody to create brand-new songs that you’ve almost, but not quite, never heard before! Direct from San Francisco will be Bootie creators and DJs Adrian A and Mysterious D, joined by Bootie NYC’s own Lobsterdust, as they keep the dance floor moving late into the night with all the best mashups in the universe. Plus, there will be live vocal mashup performances from Alejandro and Adrian A, along with FREE Bootie mashup CDs to the first 100 people through the door!

Launched in 2003 by San Francisco DJ duo A Plus D, Bootie was the first club night dedicated solely to the then-burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup — and is now the biggest mashup event in the world, with regular parties in several cities. Winning various nightlife awards for the past 13 years, Bootie celebrates pop culture both past and present, keeping your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations. Mixing and matching every musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party, it’s a place where everyone is welcome. And with free mashup CDs given away like candy, Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation.
