Zombiecon NYC 2014 – KATACLYSM at Various Locations in Downtown Manhattan

Saturday, October 18
Downtown Manhattan
Start location announced to all who RSVP
11:30AM til night

Zombiecon #10
Zombie Con 2014

For more costuming options, Zombiecon NYC 2014 expands its theme to account for the unprecedented convergence of cataclysmic forces growing the “Zombie Kaliphate” to include include ebola, climate change and corruption.

“Going back to George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead and even before, zombie films have often been commentaries on mindless aspects of human culture. Now that zombie walks are everywhere, it is important to note we were the first large-scale zombie walk and we maintain the tradition of making cultural statements while urging people to bring signage and other things that make us more interesting than the other blood & booze affairs.” ~ Zombiecon

Zombies attack Fox News

The Four Zombies of the Apocalypse are on the move… With disease, environmental degradation, greed and extremist death cults all converging as never before, the kingdom of the undead is assured.

Starting Lower East Side (Bloody Mary brunch drink/food specials), with several excellent venues, great DJs, drink specials all day/night and hookah… And the Zombie Bawl afterparty in the East Village. Coming from the start is always the best… Arrive 1130 or earlier for zombie makeovers, we leave first venue promptly at 1:30.

All zombies are welcome with extra brains if you play along with the theme. Religious extremism, climate catastrophe, plague or gluttony… War, famine, pestilence and conquest… Biblical End Times with a side of juicy, juicy braiiiins… Zombie makeup or other costuming is required. Gawkers will be beheaded. Bring signs!

Zombiecon NYC was the first big zombie walk and maintains its uniqueness with themes and culture jamming. We urge all to participate while staying safe and “leaving no trace” at all venues we visit. We are part of a bigger community with many year-around events with more info at

Hello New York,
I am back from Los Angeles with it’s awesome weather, hiking, beaches, ridiculous nightlife antics, sitting in a pool, and watching “Jurassic Park” at Silver Lake Picture Show on Sunset Blvd)– our mini Summer Screen sister out West. Besides all that, I’m happy to be back and ready to get into the NYC Summer grind (although I will miss those working by the pool days). I am going to start out this week’s newsletter with one of my favorite things to do:  “SHAW ME THE TICKETS”  giveaway contest –  Gotham Girls Roller Derby – Brooklyn Bombshells VS Manhattan Mayhem style. This Saturday’s bout will be at Abe Stark Skating Arena in Coney Island which makes a perfect backdrop to a Tinder/Grinder date, or whatever you kids are doing these days. You can get your $19.99 tickets HERE or RSVP for your chance to win ridiculous easy tickets. If you haven’t been, you have to check out these super fast, kick-ass women on skates and enjoy a day in beautiful Coney Island, USA. Go on, click on that button below…

While we are on the subject of kick ass women, our friend, Tessa Makes Love, will be be performing live with her band at Marlin Room at Webster Hall. I had the pleasure to watch her solo show a year ago and just loved her unique style, memorizing voice, and adorable stage antics.

Tessa Makes Love is a New York band compared to Portishead, Grace Jones, and Tom Waits. TML is fronted by the Russian-born singer and classical pianist Tessa Lena whose bio reads like a Hollywood movie: From escaping a sex trafficker in China to being accused of being a Russian spy in Chicago to working with her favorite rock stars, it’s a life she never thought she would be living when she was growing up as a classical music nerd in Moscow. Tessa’s favorite artist is Angélique Kidjo.

This Friday, July 18th, show will be with her full band featuring world class musicians Mark Greenberg on drums, Jonathan Levy on bass and Kane Mathis on oud.  Tessa Makes Love goes on at PM, get your $10 advanced, get tickets HERE!

Watch Tessa Makes Love – “Spente Le Stelle Marilyn Monroe Mix“!

Noisey (Music by Vice) will be presenting Brooklyn Night Bazaar this weekend with Ceremony, Iron Lung, Nothing and Trap Them, Coliseum, Incendiary and White Widows Pact. As always, both Friday and Saturday nights are FREE with arcade, miniature golf, ping-pong, and a variety of local Brooklyn vendors that will fill up your stomach and liver.  YAY!!

On Saturday, Rebel Night NYC and Dances Of Vice, which are two of my favorite party producers will join forces to bring you “Hula Rock“. This party will bring you music from the full-throttle soul screamer Barrence Whitfield, vintage car and hot rod show, traditional Japanese BBQ from Inglorivs Yakitorivs, burlesque dances, limbo contest, all night record hops and much more!! If I didn’t have a show with Bikini Carwash at Lit the same night, I would totally be there. Click HERE for Hula Rock details!

There are two Fixed NYC parties this week with Jon Hopkins (live) at Le Poisson Rouge & Medlar (US Debut) at Cameo GalleryQueen Majesty‘s Baby’s All Right debut “Zion Gate” party and two Bikini Carwash shows at Lit with The Goodnight Darlings and Blackout Stereo, and at Otto’s Shrunken Head as a part of Frank Wood’s Mid-Summer Wind Down Sunday. Please check out the rest of the newsletter or our calendar for all event details.

I will leave you with some photos taken in LA from our trip to California. I’m a 100% New Yorker, but you just got to love Cali and its greatness.  Below is photos from: Joshua Tree National Park, Good Times at Davey Waynes night club rooftop rollerskating, a Jeff Goldblum jazz session, and kiddie pool on the back of a 1967 Ford Ranchero birthday party in Joshua Tree National Park.  I love you LA!

Featuring Live Performances by

The Pizza Underground
pizza underground
The Pizza Underground finally gets around to doing what we’ve all been thinking about for years: rewriting Velvet Underground songs to be about pizza. Band-members Matt Colbourn, Deenah Vollmer, Austin Kilham, Phoebe Kreutz and Macaulay Culkin will burn your mouth with low-fi hits like “All the Pizza Parties” (All Tomorrow’s Parties), “Pizza, It Hurts” (Venus in Furs), and “Take a Bite of the Wild Slice” (Walk on the Wild Side”). The band’s “Fresh to Your Door Tour” starts making deliveries to the U.S. in March.

Toby Goodshank (album release for “Piper Laurie”)
Toby Goodshank made his high-profile musical debut playing acoustic guitar in The Moldy Peaches. He has a prolific solo career, recording 14 albums in a five-year span and touring Europe with artists including Jeffrey Lewis and Kimya Dawson. Goodshank’s style, while usually centered around his solo guitar and singing abilities, draws from a variety of pop and underground art and musical influences and employs many instrumental textures. Unconventional song structures, humor, innuendo, and wordplay are staples of his music and artwork across the variety of forms they take. He recently toured in support of his latest album Truth Jump Fall and co-founded the 3MB art collective with Adam Green and Macaulay Culkin.

Toby will be playing with a full band for this gig, celebrating the release of his new album, Piper Laure! The first 100 people in attendance will receive a FREE copy of the album!
