Dossier Plug 9.16

PLUG is a new rolling event series hosted by NYC electropop duo The Dossier that features a wide spectrum of electronic artists in live performance, ranging from pop to techno to noise and all sounds in between, alongside a specially curated guest DJ.

The Dossier – 10PM /
The Dossier

NYC duo The Dossier brings an infectious mix of throbbing electronics, stomping glam, fuzzed-up basslines and anthemic melodies to spare, all with a fond nod to classic new wave and a sound that will be both new and familiar to fans of influential electronic artists like Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, and Pet Shop Boys.

The Dossier 9.16.14
The band will be celebrating the release of its long-awaited debut LP ‘Strange Arrangements’ (Whipsmart), out 9.16, with the limited physical edition available at the show.

Blush Response – 9PM

Cuban-American artist and sound designer Joey Blush’s music is characterized by a modular approach, combining glitchy beats with thick, distorted synths to create a sound that blurs the lines between electronic genres.

Blush cut his teeth programming work for artists including Fear Factory, Rhys Fulber, Cristian Castro, and as a touring member of Joey Jordison’s (Slipknot) alternative rock project Scar the Martyr. He’s released two albums to date, 2010’s ‘We Are Replicants’ (self-released) and 2013’s ‘Tension Strategies’ (Basic Unit Productions/Tundra).

Lost Children – 8PM
Lost Children

Lost Children is the solo musical guise of Avery Brooks (Ice Choir, Ravens & Chimes), in which he blends elements of new wave, darkwave, and electro. Debut LP ‘Our Fallen Cities’ (Supermartyr) was released to underground acclaim in 2010 and a much-awaited follow-up is underway.

All evening:

DJ Jess Marquis’ Remix “Burn” by Ellie Goulding is Brazen and Romantic

Our favorite nightlife DJ, Mr. Jess Marquis, just sent us over remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Burn” and it is brazen and romantic. Couldn’t wait to share it with you!

Also be sure to check out his original track “Grand Vandal”.  Soaring piano battling dirty bass.

Red Bull Music Academy 2013 takes over NYC with 38 Events!

Red Bull Music Academy is in town and kicks off on April 28.   We were lucky enough to be invited to the Redbull Academy last night for a kick off party for a taste of events to come this next month and we even got a tour of the whole place.  Theaters, recording studios, and aquariums — it was a creative playground and we couldn’t be more impressed.  Over the next month, RBMA is throwing 38 events in every cultural background to cater to anyone’s likes which include Eryka Badu, our friends from Fixed JDH & Dave P, a Brian Eno paintings exhibit, DFA 12 year anniversary party, NYC in Dub, and pretty much any other NYC party you can think of will be taken over by.  We’ve added 11 of their events to our SHAW Calendar, all of which have not been sold out yet. Check those out HERE!

For a complete line up of all the events, CLICK HERE!

And here is a word about the festival from RBMA:

“The Red Bull Music Academy is a world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals: a platform for those who make a difference in today’s musical landscape. This year we’re bringing together two groups of 31 selected participants – producers, vocalists, DJs, instrumentalists and all-round musical mavericks from around the world – in New York City. For two weeks, each group will hear lectures by musical luminaries, work together on tracks and perform in the city’s best clubs and music halls. Imagine a place that’s equal parts science lab, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and Kraftwerk’s home studio. Throw in a touch of Haight-Ashbury circa 1967, a sprinkle of Prince Jammy’s mixing board and Bob Moog’s synthesizer collection – all in a 22nd century remix – and you’re halfway there.

The Academy began back in 1998, and has been traversing the globe since: from Berlin to Cape Town, São Paulo, Barcelona, London, Toronto and many other places.

Interested? Applications for the 2014 Red Bull Music Academy open early next year. Watch this space for more information.”
