SHAW Promotion & The Little People Party present Brooklyn Bazaar Family Funhouse

Hey People,
Back in 2003 I saw an opportunity in the under belly of NYC nightlife so I went to work, partied hard, and SHAW Promotion was born. We have won “Best Promoters” awards twice from Paper Magazine as well as Village Voice and L Magazine, and other publications. I have also had the pleasure to work with many great people, including my wife, JD, who use to throw parties with now infamous Mike Nouveau almost 12 years ago…

Fast forward more than a decade, JD and I are now parents to a 1 1/2 year old toddler named Jarvis. Combining our new passion of hanging with our son, our event production backgrounds, and marketing expertise, the concept for The Little People Party was born out of a genuine need for what we needed now in our lives…

“As new parents living in a not so huge apartment in North Brooklyn, husband and wife team Andy and JD quickly realized that Jarvis needed a larger indoor space for weekly socialization and play, and they needed to avoid going broke to accommodate him! The idea of meeting and mingling with other parents who also need a safe, stimulating, affordable, fully inclusive outlet for their children is the driving force behind each event.”

The Little People Party is already the fastest growing kids events at our normal weekly space. Starting Sunday, November 20, 2016, The Little People Party presents Brooklyn Bazaar Family Funhouse, a weekly event devoted to families at the new Greenpoint Brooklyn Bazaar every Sunday. (150 Greenpoint Avenue). The venue offers ping pong, mini golf, brunch by Brooklyn Star, arcade games, family-themed vendors, and two “The Little People Dance Party” upstairs in the large Concert Hall featuring a weekly 45 minute performance with rotating guest performers as well as ample time to run around the space, a safe environment for kids.

I hope some of you will join us for this new venture or please help us spread the word to other parent friends!

“NY Burlesque Festival + Motorcycle Film & Chile Pepper Festival, Fixed, Riis Beach Bazaar season finale w. Bikini Carwash, So So Glos & Perfect P*ssy”

SHAW 9.23.2015

Hello New York,
Just when you think the summer is coming to an end, little did you know this is the week of FESTIVALS! This week we have not one, not two, but THREE highly anticipated festivals in NYC.

First on the list, the 3rd Annual Motorcycle Film Festival (#MFF2015) at Littlefield 9.23 – 9.27.
Have we mention how much we love motorcycles? I was totally honored to have my mini documentary titled “I Ride a Triumph” by featured on the 1st annual Motorcycle Film Festival.

I ride a Triumph
I ride a Triumph

In the last 2 short years I watched this festival blowing up in popularity uniting bikers, film makers, and all things motorcycles gathering with their bikes, friends and enjoying some kick ass films. The MFF founders, Jack Drury and Corinna Mantlo of The Miss Fires, are two of the hardest working riders I know and hats helmets off to them for such a unique and amazing festival. Get tickets and details HERE!

Honorable mention, the 2015 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride this Sunday

Up next, the The 13th Annual NY Burlesque Festival (#NYBF 2015) by Pontani Sisters and Thirsty Girl Productions. 13 years is a lot of years to host such a fabulous and successful festival in NYC. The NYBF will take over NYC by the sexy storm in 4 days with 6 venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn with all the hottest burlesque performers and MC’s in the industry. “Celebrating over a Decade, of Glitter and Glamour in Gotham with over 100 performers from around the Globe!”  I also want to give a huge congrats to Angie Pontani for her adorable new baby girl.  Welcome to parenthood Angie!

On Saturday, it’s time to get even hotter, I’m talking really, really hot. Behold the Chile Pepper Festival 2015 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden! “New York’s hottest fall tradition features spicy performances from around the world and the opportunity to sample dozens of hot sauces, pickles, and salsas as well as artisanal goodies from Brooklyn’s best chile-chocolate creators.” SHAW Promotion is actually not involved with the organizers of the Chile Pepper Fest, but I will actually be working one of the booths for the award winning Queen Majesty Hot Sauce! Come by, bring a date, bring your family, and get your hot sauce ON. Stop by the Queen Majesty Hot Sauce (#QueenMajestyHotSauce) booth and say HI!

Ever since the beloved Brooklyn Night Bazaar closed it’s door in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and found a new life at Riis Park Beach this summer, the good people at the Riis Park Beach Bazaar had been bringing quality FREE music every weekend as well as daily food and beverage concessions from NYC’s favorite local chefs. This weekend the #RPBB will celebrate their last shows of the season with the help of Time Out Live and Ipsum Magazine to present you two incredible days of FREE music on the Jacob Riis Park’s historic NYC waterfront. My band Bikini Carwash (#BikiniCarwashRocks) is so excited to be one of the bands on the Sunday 9.27 show opening up for The So So Glos.  Both weekend shows are listed in “Best Shows in NYC This Week” on Oh My Rockness and Critic’s Picks on Time Out New York: “Anthemic local fuzz-punks the So So Glos headline this Time Out New York–presented gig with power-pop quartet Bikini Carwash filling out the bill.” Bikini Carwash + RPBB = PERFECT SHOW. Come party with us!! Check out the complete line up for Saturday HERE and Sunday HERE!!

On Set with Mark Ronson’s New Music Video “I Can’t Lose”

Few months back I had the pleasure to be a part of the Mark Ronson‘s new music video, “I can’t Lose“, featuring Keyone Starr.  The video shoot took place at Le Baron, a small, swanky bar in Chinatown that was transformed into a ultra stylish setting resembling the golden ages of China’s Shanghai era of the 1920’s, known as the “The Paris of the East, the New York of the West”. Upon arrival, Mark Ronson made a point to greet every single cast, crew, and talents with a sincere appreciation for everyone’s help on his new video. There was no shortage of the industry standard “hurry up and wait” for the entire shoot, but the endless authentic old world visuals all around the set plus friendly cast was plenty fun to pass the time while we wait for our turn for the video shoot. Mark Ronson was nothing short of a genuine nice guy with great musical talent to boot. We weren’t allowed to post anything until the video made it’s world premier and guess what, it’s OUT!!

PS. Thanks to Christine Lo for the casting and Chad Ghiron 0f for the opportunity.

Check out the video below and some fun photos I took on set.

About Bootie Mashup
Launched in 2003 by San Francisco DJ duo A Plus D, Bootie was the first club night dedicated solely to the then-burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup — and is now the biggest mashup event in the world, with regular parties in several cities on four continents. Voted “Best Club Night” for the past nine years, Bootie celebrates pop culture both past and present, keeping your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations. Mixing and matching every musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party, it’s a place where everyone is welcome. And with free mashup CDs given away like candy, Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation.

Hello New York,
I am back from Los Angeles with it’s awesome weather, hiking, beaches, ridiculous nightlife antics, sitting in a pool, and watching “Jurassic Park” at Silver Lake Picture Show on Sunset Blvd)– our mini Summer Screen sister out West. Besides all that, I’m happy to be back and ready to get into the NYC Summer grind (although I will miss those working by the pool days). I am going to start out this week’s newsletter with one of my favorite things to do:  “SHAW ME THE TICKETS”  giveaway contest –  Gotham Girls Roller Derby – Brooklyn Bombshells VS Manhattan Mayhem style. This Saturday’s bout will be at Abe Stark Skating Arena in Coney Island which makes a perfect backdrop to a Tinder/Grinder date, or whatever you kids are doing these days. You can get your $19.99 tickets HERE or RSVP for your chance to win ridiculous easy tickets. If you haven’t been, you have to check out these super fast, kick-ass women on skates and enjoy a day in beautiful Coney Island, USA. Go on, click on that button below…

While we are on the subject of kick ass women, our friend, Tessa Makes Love, will be be performing live with her band at Marlin Room at Webster Hall. I had the pleasure to watch her solo show a year ago and just loved her unique style, memorizing voice, and adorable stage antics.

Tessa Makes Love is a New York band compared to Portishead, Grace Jones, and Tom Waits. TML is fronted by the Russian-born singer and classical pianist Tessa Lena whose bio reads like a Hollywood movie: From escaping a sex trafficker in China to being accused of being a Russian spy in Chicago to working with her favorite rock stars, it’s a life she never thought she would be living when she was growing up as a classical music nerd in Moscow. Tessa’s favorite artist is Angélique Kidjo.

This Friday, July 18th, show will be with her full band featuring world class musicians Mark Greenberg on drums, Jonathan Levy on bass and Kane Mathis on oud.  Tessa Makes Love goes on at PM, get your $10 advanced, get tickets HERE!

Watch Tessa Makes Love – “Spente Le Stelle Marilyn Monroe Mix“!

Noisey (Music by Vice) will be presenting Brooklyn Night Bazaar this weekend with Ceremony, Iron Lung, Nothing and Trap Them, Coliseum, Incendiary and White Widows Pact. As always, both Friday and Saturday nights are FREE with arcade, miniature golf, ping-pong, and a variety of local Brooklyn vendors that will fill up your stomach and liver.  YAY!!

On Saturday, Rebel Night NYC and Dances Of Vice, which are two of my favorite party producers will join forces to bring you “Hula Rock“. This party will bring you music from the full-throttle soul screamer Barrence Whitfield, vintage car and hot rod show, traditional Japanese BBQ from Inglorivs Yakitorivs, burlesque dances, limbo contest, all night record hops and much more!! If I didn’t have a show with Bikini Carwash at Lit the same night, I would totally be there. Click HERE for Hula Rock details!

There are two Fixed NYC parties this week with Jon Hopkins (live) at Le Poisson Rouge & Medlar (US Debut) at Cameo GalleryQueen Majesty‘s Baby’s All Right debut “Zion Gate” party and two Bikini Carwash shows at Lit with The Goodnight Darlings and Blackout Stereo, and at Otto’s Shrunken Head as a part of Frank Wood’s Mid-Summer Wind Down Sunday. Please check out the rest of the newsletter or our calendar for all event details.

I will leave you with some photos taken in LA from our trip to California. I’m a 100% New Yorker, but you just got to love Cali and its greatness.  Below is photos from: Joshua Tree National Park, Good Times at Davey Waynes night club rooftop rollerskating, a Jeff Goldblum jazz session, and kiddie pool on the back of a 1967 Ford Ranchero birthday party in Joshua Tree National Park.  I love you LA!

About #QMHotsauce
Queen Majesty Scotch Bonnet & Ginger Hot Sauce is a fresh pepper sauce handmade in a commercial kitchen in Brooklyn, NY. This all-natural recipe was created by reggae selector Queen Majesty, who has been making hot sauce for over 10 years. Her scotch bonnet & ginger recipe balances heat with a unique Caribbean flavor. Try it on everything and enjoy in good health!

The Scotch Bonnet chili pepper is found mainly in the Caribbean, Guyana, West Africa and the Maldives islands. It closely resembles the habanero pepper but has a sweeter flavor and a stouter shape.

Ingredients include:
Scotch bonnet peppers, bell peppers, vinegar, lime, ginger, olive oil, salt, onions, garlic and spices.
