15 years and running, award winning Taiwan Rock Band since 1990s.

The Chairman, formed in 1997, has released 8 albums, and received numerous domestic and overseas awards. The Chairman is famed for its particular Taiwanese local rock and roll style and has dominated the Taiwan music industry for years. The Chairman has been nominated and won awards including GoldenMelody Awards and Golden Indie Awards in Taiwan. They were also invited to perform at 2011 Taiwan Heritage Night at the Mets Citi Field, the first Taiwan live band to perform at any Major League Baseball.

Red Flower Band 紅花樂團

Popular Electro pop rock band that’s under Sony Music Taiwan!

Emerging band Red Flower straddles the murky line between pop and indie band. Red Flower Band was found in 2005 and since then, two tracks have become TV drama theme songs including “Love Second Time Around” makes a nod to 1980s happy-go-lucky rock, while “Pillow Talk” veers into atmospheric slow rock redolent of Coldplay.

The Hsu-Nami

An international renowned prog-rock band from the United States.

The Hsu-Nami. Integrates an amplified electric ”erhu”, a tweaked two-string spike fiddle used in Chinese classical and folk music, into a rock lineup. The band typically compose lengthy erhu melodic-based instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, heavy guitar riffs, melodic bass guitar lines and trading solo. Part of the new-fusion rock movement, the Hsu-Nami redefines the 1960s and 1970s progressive fusion rock music. Hsu-Nami’s music was featured in the 2008 Summer Olympic in Beijing.

DJ Statik aka Mr. Sonny James is co-founder of Philadelphia’s most prolific and well-respected DJ/Production crew, Illvibe Collective. He is the official tour DJ for legendary MC Bahamadia and other Philly-based artists, including Hezekiah and Mr. Lif. Famously noted as “your DJ’s favorite DJ,” Statik’s sets have hit popular New York venues like Santos Party House, SOBs and APT. He is an annual staple at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin and at Miami’s Winter Music Conference. “PROPS, Wednesday nights at LPR’s Gallery Bar is the continuation of Rich Medina’s infamous Li’l Ricky’s Rib Shack parties on Wednesdays at the now defunct APT (RIP). Back at APT, Akalepse would rock the upstairs space, while Rich rocked the basement. For 8+ years NYC couldn’t front…the combo was unbeatable. When it was time to move on, they chose to do it together.

New venue, new name for the party, new dynamic, same vinyl junkie DJs. Rich Medina and Akalepse continue to bring you that raw, outside the Top 40, heavy, fun, sexy, soulful and honest music they are both known and respected for. The music selection weekly runs the full spectrum of soul music, minus the conventional program director bottle poppers fare. Both Rich & Lepse are avid record collectors, each with a heavyweight collection of over 20,000+ records a piece, so of course you’re going to hear things you don’t know… that is the point. But not the whole point, they play classic tunes right next to obscurities, always pushing the listening audience a little, in a sincere effort to break new records and reintroduce slept on heaters simultaneously.

The Grand Slam, slated for June 3rd, 2012 will mark the first of a series of neighborhood events planned by the GSA. The 2012 GSA calendar will also include Special FX Makeup Competition, a Food Truck Festival, a Hot Rod/Motorcycle Show, a Vegan Food Showdown, a Street Performance Festival and a ZombieFest in time for Halloween.

Hello New York,
In the sea of event newsletters in NYC there are a few I really enjoy reading such as Rok One and Roxy Cottontail, but one of my favorite has always been Seva at MyOpenBar.com.  Yesterday, I received the “Your LAST MYOPENBAR EMAIL EVER” email blast; they simply stated in a true MyOpenBar fashion “That’s right. We’re over it.” and I was all  “Say it ain’t so”!  SHAW is good friends with MyOpenBar and have been blasting our emails side by side for the past 7+ years. Well Seva, it’s been fun and we wish you best luck, but the SHAW must go on and we will continue our 9 year tradition with our newsletter (going and going and going… ). Thank you for all your support throughout all these years, it truly makes us appreciate our readers after another newsletter bites the dust.

Wiping our tears and moving on, this week we have 17 events from Tuesday to Monday with the Return of Down & Derby (Finally!) and Gotham Girls Roller Derby (Queens VS Bronx) to “The greatest Artists in Heavy Music (hell yeah!) presented by The Blacken Music Series, a special star-studded “Girls Who Rock” benefit concert, the monthly Hot Mess! party (Leslie Fest 2012!), the Hello Taiwan NYC tour at Drom, the 3 year anniversary of Fac:Off in celebration of Ian Curtis (Joy Division) and the usual awesome weekly parties such as Disco Down, Props, Trash! Samuel Valentine parties + Fake Blood and Bart B More at Girls & Boys.

This is also a very exciting week as SHAW PROMOTION will be presenting the Bootie Mashup Pirate Ship Party on the The Star of Palm Beach boat which sails around NYC! I said this before and I will say it again, the Bootie NYC is one of our most popular parties and we are so excited to do a boat party; this Saturday will be totally wild  and we can not wait to board the ship at midnight for this late night cruise. Rickard Guy Studios is showing the work of Erman Mercan, a visual artist from California now living and working in Brooklyn. Along with his paintings he will be showing short films all dealing with the subject of linguistics. There will be a raffle for a painting as well as a moccasin collaboration with Rickard Guy, an artisan and cobbler. One of Erman’s paintings will be printed onto canvas, lined with suede and recreated into a hand made moccasin to fit the winner. Raffles will be at eleven, you must be there to claim prizes. Refreshments will be available and Melissa Love will be making delicious vegan cupcakes.
