In NYC, since 1980, the College Music Journal, (CMJ) Music Marathon has been host to thousands of underground and breaking bands. In recent years bands like Monotonix, The Dum Dum Girls and Turbo Fruits have showcased at CMJ and in years past, bands such as Sonic Youth and The Flaming Lips performed CMJ while they were still cutting their teeth. Over 1300 bands from far away as Australia converge onto 75 stages throughout NYC for five days of music.
