The Imitation tells the story of Alice, a young “conceptual artist” struggling to claw her way through a cutthroat art market, willing to sacrifice anything to realize her dream. When her path intersects with an unscrupulous financier, she betrays a dark secret to her ambition that consumes both their fates. As the pair begins a frantic series of attempts to regain control of their storyline, her secret corrodes their schemes and pulls her and her accomplice into an upsurging cthonic chaos.

Presented in this incarnation as a four channel video installation with Big Art Group members Viva Ruiz, Ned Stresen-Reuter, Heather Litteer and David Commander synchronized with the live concert musicians, The Imitation is a performance fabricated from the detritus and trash of New York City, repurposed and repackaged into a hallucinatory, psychedelic, celebratory, and corrosive invocation. The Imitation explores the dark temptation of the creative act.

This original performance was a commission of the Hebbel am Ufer made possible by the support of the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin, Diane White, and James Davison and the supporters of Big Art Group.

We got a total of 14 parties starting tonight till Sunday with a total of 10 open bars. But before we begin, I just wanted say RIP to Michael Jackson whom I grew up listened to and loved. My brother and I used to have Michael Jackson dance off competitions in front of the living room mirror when we were teenagers growing up in Queens. Its just too bad... Events kick off on June 27 th 2009 with a free live screening of What's On Your Plate in Fort Greene Park. Films will continue to run at BAM until July 8 th , including a whole day in honor of Spike Lee . From 4 th -6 th July , it's the turn of bands, skaters and BMX take over downtown Brooklyn. The festival closes out with a Block Party on July 12 th featuring more live music, djs, fashion, food and local artists.
