Hello New York,
It's another beautiful sunny day and soon it will be Spring, what a wonderful thing... Days like this all I want to do is to ride my motorcycle and get out of town but we all got jobs to do and a part of my job is putting together this weekly newsletter with Amylu for YOU! But I got my 2 dogs chilling by my side, coffee, cigarettes, Pandora Radio in my sunny office so it really isn't too bad. It's getting harder and harder to imagine working at a stiffy office environment, 7 years later I'm still totally digging my gig.
Alright, we got some solid parties this week and tonight I will be at both Disco Down and the new party "Smell The Glove" presented by Brooklyn Ski Club and Nickels & Dimes @ St. Jerome's. Double tap! Smell the Glove promises to have "Motley Crue, AC/DC, Warrant, Guns N' Roses, New York Dolls, KISS, Motorhead, and fun stuff like that..." and Im into it. My very first concert ever was Faster Pussycat and Motley Crue. This is up my alley and if you are into these 80s hair and rock bands this should be a fun night for us all.
We also have Simian Mobile Disco DJ set with one of my favorite crew FIXED at one of my favorite venues LPR. This will be the first date of a new SMD quarterly residency at FIXED! and you can checkout their site or here for the next installment. And speaking of favorites, one of my personal favorite artist Alexis Trice will have her gallery opening this Saturday in Brooklyn with all new paintings. I have a good collection of Alexis Trice's work and I will definitely be there to check out the gallery opening and you should too. Support your local artists!
We also have NC17 & Trash! from DJ Jess, Hot Pursuit with my hommies in Brooklyn, Wolfgang Gartner @ Girls & Boys, Salvation @ Don Hills, Arms Around Haiti @ Public Assembly and 4 live bands and Marina & the Diamonds w/ Samuel (Monday 3/15) both at LPR. Hit us up for your guest list to selected parties at RSVP@SHAWPROMOTION.COM.
Thank you for reading once again, enjoy the sun before the rain kicks in this weekend. Lame.. Hope to see some of you at the parties this week, cheers!
Andy Shaw and the Shaw Promotion team.

Yes Giantess, Light Asylum, Oberhofer & Twin Shadow Live @ (Le) Poisson Rouge
158 Bleecker Street, NYC, between Thompson & Sullivan 7:00 PM | 18+
$8 Advance tickets can be purchased here: http://lepoissonrouge.com/events/view/1077
Yes Giantess , Light Asylum , Oberhofer and Twin Shadow Live
Yes Giantess (formally known as just Giantess) are a four-piece who make pretty party-worthy jams and originate from Boston, Massachusetts. The band members are Jan Rosenfeld (vocals/ synth), Chase Nicholl (synth), Karl Hohn (synth) and Joey Sulkowski (drums). With Ratatat-sized synths and huge pop choruses, Yes Giantess is pretty much the sonic equivalent of flying down the yellow brick road while its raining ecstasy and skittles. They’re like the tequila-fuelled love-child of Iglu & Hartly and Hockey, with a raging doubt that Passion Pit might actually be the father. They’ve practically swallowed a Lego kit of synths and beats before spewing it up again with a scream of intent. Sensible songs these are not, but they are very fun. The same sort of fun as ending up getting it on in the bathroom at a houseparty; edgy and immense at the time but with a distinct bitter taste of regret in the morning.
Light Asylum - Shannon Funchess and Bruno Coviello are Williamsburg Brooklyn's answer to the reemergence of new romantics. Like their predecessors, they have a penchant for walking on the dark side while carrying the torch to new dawns of rapturous, post-punk, new wave and industrial sounds. LIGHT ASYLUM is a musical echoing from the past reverberating against mans foreshadowing, apocalyptic plight, to destroy what light is still being held up high to guide us all inward and homeward. As a beacon is to sailors lost to a battle with the sea, beats, synths and vocals come in waves leading listener ashore in the darkest of nights.
Oberhofer - When your songs are too big to be contained: form a band. Maybe call it after your family name because you like the way it sounds (shit, if it worked for Bon Jovi then who’s to argue). Record those songs in the basement of your parents house in Tacoma. When that burns down, shake it off and move to New York. Find a new band to play with, start working on a symphony (no really, do it), mix your newfound formal training with the noisy exuberance of youth. Get raucous.
Twin Shadow - It's high noon in Brooklyn but its always midnight on southern, dead end suburban streets. Here, there is total silence except for the house at the very end, where inside a tin roof garage, teenagers are kissing for the first time. The humidity is too great, the boys peel off white t’s and the girls cheeks are flushed, beet red under the garage’s two fluorescent stripes. In a pond behind the house an alligator waits for a snow birds’ Pomeranian to take its night stroll. A child is sleep walking for the first time. Some one is running away for the last time. The music is too loud on the 12 D battery boom box radio, the cops are on their way. It’s at this moment you hear the music of Twin Shadow on a radio station transmitting suburban ghost dreams that sound like a slow motion shot of a cannon, singing about spirits, visions, and aural hallucinations cutting through the first American night.

transplants Mark & Craig of VHS or BETA are returning to their weekly
party along with BK natives Kids With Snakes and Gavin Royce! Hot
Pursuit kicks off at Williamsburg’s newest venue, The Woods.
If you haven’t already checked it out, The Woods It's an old
garage/industrial space on S4th and Wythe with a huge back patio that
has recently been turned into a rad new bar and event space! It even
has a full time taco cart with delicious food.

In addition to the great tunes and fun times the drinks are extremely
cheap....$3 dollar keg beers and $3 “working mans cans” as well as
other cheap beer and shot combos. The liquor drinks are very
reasonably priced if you like your top shelf stuff.
P.S. Gavin thought you should know that the tacos are $2 and burritos
are $5, and they also do burgers!

w/ Wolfgang Gartner

feat. Designer Drugs, Disko Dali and Jesse Jamz
Wolfgang Gartner is one of the most promising and fastest rising acts in electro house right now - recently signed to MSTRKRFT's management, his tracks have been plastered all over the very best music blogs, and he has been asked to remix everyone from Timbaland to MSTRKRFT to Britney Spears (?) as well as some of his own original work which is some of cleanest, funkiest, most adrenaline-inducing electro house we have ever heard. The guy is unfeasibly talented. To us, he sounds like Daft Punk meets Deadmau5 with a dash of something special (let's call it the x factor for want of a better word).
Local hipster favorites, Designer Drugs will be supporting - these guys are making great original music right now that you need to hear. They have remixed Annie, N.A.S.A. and Little Boots among many others and they are making a big name for themselves around the country.
Jesse Jamz + disko dali + Joshua Glazer (Urb LA) will also be deejaying.

Alexis Trice's gallery opening @ Clover's Fine Art Gallery
338 Atlantic Avenue, BK
4-6pm

ALEXIS TRICE'S GALLERY OPENING
Four colorful artists brighten up Clover’s Fine Art Gallery with Cosmic Characters, opening March 11th and showing through April 5th 2010. The Opening Reception will be held Saturday March 13th from 4-6 pm at Clover’s Fine Art Gallery, 338 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY.
The artists capture other-worldly characters saturated in surrealist realms from the depths of their imaginations.
Alexis Trice, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, has become known for her comic dog portraits (Boston Terriers in particular) and brand WelcometotheDoghouse. Trice has been featured in online and print publications such as Dog Fancy Magazine, The NY Daily News, Pampered Puppy, L Magazine, Fortune Magazine, Animal Planet's Dogs 101, and Wag Magazine. She has had work exhibited at P.P.O.W Gallery, Niagara Gallery, Fuse Gallery, 323 Gallery, The Mighty Tanika Gallery and the Micro Museum. Marina & the Diamonds
w/ Samuel
Marina & the Diamonds
Marina & the Diamonds is the stage name of Marina Diamandis, a Welsh-born solo artist based in London. Her musical style ranges from keyboard-based ballads to more up-tempo new wave-style songs with full band backing. She played at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Swindon early in May 2009 and played the Glastonbury Festival in June 2009. Her debut single Obsessions/Mowgli’s Road was issued on Neon Gold records in the US, followed by the Crown Jewels EP in June 2009.
Her debut album ‘The Family Jewels’ is set for February 2010 on 679 Records.
Samuel
Born in New York, Samuel has been surrounded by music his entire life. His mother, whom he credits as his biggest influence, was a singer and performer in her own right. It wasn't long before he followed in her footsteps, forming a string of bands throughout high school. Playing shows and doing home recordings, Samuel attracted some indie label attention but after being introduced to Ben "DJ BRoc" Ruttner, part of the production duo the Knocks, he decided to break off to pursue a solo career. After a year and a half of writing, recording and performing, Samuel amassed a repertoire of catchy electro-pop bangers and, in the fall of 2008, his soulful voice, inspired lyrics, and dulcet hooks caught the ears of executives at Columbia Records who wasted no time in signing him to a record deal. With a record in the works for January 2010, the hype surrounding this up and coming talent has attracted major names from the hip-hop and pop world, all eager to work with him.
