Photos from Bikini Carwash, Tyburn Saints, & Kentucky Knife Fight are up!

Last night marked the second show for Bikini Carwash in the basement of Southpaw in Brooklyn.  Who knew they had a basement? Turns out it made for a really fun, intimate show with two other amazing bands – Tyburn Saints and Kentucky Knife Fight, a very impressive southern band currently on tour (I’ve been listening to their CD all day).  Check out the photos and follow the link below to the gallery page to view the entire set.  I would like to thank Johnny for setting up the show, the traveling boys from Kentucky Knife Fight for putting up with NYC and it’s cold shoulder, and Alan Rand for the very helpful Photoshop tips.   I apologize for the quality of some of the photos, however if you would like to send over a better lens for low light events to the SHAW office, I may be able to turn out some more impressive photographs taken in dingy basements for your viewing pleasure.

Catching up with summer

Wow, this summer went by so fast! Even though we are constantly adding more photo galleries every few days to our “SHAW Time” and “SHAW Events” albums, I haven’t had a chance to individually break them all down for you on our kick-ass blog. Today that changes as I am going to flood your heads with a whole lot of visuals of what’s been going on this summer in the world of SHAW, all crammed into one post.  Below you’ll find links to shows and events such as Andy’s band, Dirty Spiders, that played with the old school English Oi band The Business, photos from the Rumbler’s Car Show (NYC riot cops and Hell’s Angels included), The Rapture at Le Bain, Eight of Swords tattoo opening in BK, and our very good friends, Hsu-Nami, who played at Arlene’s Grocery this past weekend with the Taiwan based band Chairman.  To keep your head from spinning from all of these great event photos, we suggest you sit down and take your time looking through them.  Oh, and drink lots of water beer.

Rickard Guy Studio Grand Opening is a Brooklyn favorite

Last night was the opening of Dan McRorie’s long awaited baby, the “Rickard Guy” studio where he premiered the most attractive men’s and women’s hand-made moccasins I’ve ever seen.  Set in  Bushwick, Brooklyn in an airy, exposed brick studio, some of Brooklyn’s finest showed up to enjoy complimentary refreshments and to see if they could win a custom pair of their own Rickard Guy’s.  Dan has proven himself not only talented, but an all around great guy who was gleaming all night from having his loved ones around to share his hard work and dedication.  Joining forces with Rickard Guy opening last night was artwork by Daniel Albrigo (who also happens to be a kick ass tattoo artist!) and music by Alan O’Keefe and Matt Demicco.

Check out the Rickard Guy website (www.rickardguyhandmade.com) to have a look through his master pieces, book an appointment, and find out why Rickard Guy is labeled “a fine, young man”.  These shoes are a must have for any season and you can personalize them in so many ways!  Did I mention he does a kick ass shoe repair?!

I’d like to thank my guest photographer, Emily, for taking the reigns on the camera for a bit.

Dorney Park Zombie Invasion wins Guinness Book Record!!

SHAW PROMOTION was a proud sponsor of the Dorney Park Zombie Invasion 2011 where we attempted to break the Guinness Book of World Record’s most costumed people (i.e. ZOMBIES!) on roller coaster over a timed period, and we won!  Beating the previous record of 300 people by producing 330 qualified contestants (out of hundreds) to smash the record in style.  Andy, myself, and two very willing friends were lucky enough to be on the inaugurated first ride, quickly being pushed off as soon as Steel Force came to a halt, with hundreds of zombies waiting to participate.  They offered affordable make up prices by special effects artists 3 hours before they opened Dorney Park to zombies only, kicking out the day crowd.  After riding the coasters for a few hours and watching probably one of the craziest metal shows I’ve ever seen that included a “suspension”, “pulling”, pyrotechnique chainsaws, and women shooting flames from their mouth, we dragged our exhausted selves to the closest refuge still open at 1 am in Pennsylvania, Waffle House.  We’d like to give a HUGE thank you to Doug Sakmann of NYC Zombie Crawl, Dorney Park and all of the staff for staying late and having a sense of humor, Danny and The Guinness Book of World Records, and all of the people who make the Zombie Crawl a culty success!

SHAW’s 2nd Annual Poconos Camping sponsored by PBR, Sailor Jerry Rum, and Mercy

You know what I love most about summer? Getaways!!  We are so fortunate to be in the line of work that we do because it means we get invited to attend lots of really cool events, including one I myself set up last year: The SHAW Family Poconos Camping Trip.  Hosted in the beautiful town of Lakawaxen, PA in the Pocono Mountains, we stayed 3 (very rainy) nights on the Delware River camping.  Lucky for us we have friends at PBR, Sailor Jerry Rum (returning sponsor), and Mercy, so we gave them a call and were ever so kind to throw some promo packages our way to keep the good times rolling!  Included in the trip was a 5 hour rafting excursion down the river, thanks  2 River Junction, which really just made sitting in the rain all weekend worth it; we were lucky enough to have a sunny afternoon!  Good friends, good times, and now new ideas for next year (hello mimosa’s and cheese raft!).  We’d like to thank from the bottom of our hearts: Dimitry at 2 River Junction , Dana Dynamite at Sailor Jerry Rum, Shira at PBR, Tina and Jonathan at Mercy, my Mom and Dad for supplying unlimited water, ice, and shelter, and all of our friends who came this year, including my very handy brother!

Go “Big Up” or Go Home

What a fun weekend! SHAW PROMOTION was a proud sponsor of the Big Up Music and Arts Festival this past weekend on a beautiful, large farm in Ghent, New York.  With an attendance of over 4,000 people camping, crafting, and dancing, there was always a photo op (wish I would have brought more camera batteries; camping = no electric outlets).  Between 4 stages (2 in the main field, one in the woods, and a late night barn) playing all day and night, it was almost like the festival had split personalities yet somehow managed to combine together seamlessly to form one really amazing weekend.  Day time was full of really good jam bands, enjoying the local vendors and arts, and soaking up the sun on a beautiful large field while night time seemed to explode with energy.  Once the sun went down, the dub/electro bands took stage and out of nowhere everyone is lit up moving with glow sticks and light up hula hoops; I’ve seriously never seen so many amazing hula hoopers in one place (not to mention so many lasers).  I know what you’re thinking, “Ravers? Glowsticks? Jam Bands?”, but we here at SHAW PROMOTION consider ourselves “Subcultural Tourists”, so by fully embracing the festival we really got to experience something that isn’t offered in New York City.  It’s hard to say much more because I’m honestly amazed at what an incredible time we had, so I figure I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.  A big thank you to all of the Big Up staff including Matt Fisch, Franesa, Lori and Robby, Kim, and everyone we met for making such a cool, large scale event possible; we can’t wait for next year!

Harley Davidson® Boot Camp proves they’re still top in their game

Harley Davidson proved today that they started the game and are still one of the leading brands in motorcycles in the world.  Offering this first time “boot camp” get show off their newer, more affordable sleeker designs while giving out free cigars, beer, and dinner (with tons of vegetarian sandwiches!!), they turned their Queens headquarters into a walk around tutorial teaching new/wannabe riders a thing or two about Harley®. Unfortunately I had to skip out early because Andy is still away and I’m running SHAW, but I had a chance to peek around their warehouse and gain a little more knowledge about what the brand has to offer — which includes a 5lb book containing different accessories to customize your bike.
