“Riis Park Beach Bazaar Opening w. MOTHXR, French Horn Rebellion & Computer Magic, Final BK Bazzar, Morrissey Bday w. The Sons & Heirs, Dreamland Xanadu Skate Party and MORE”

SHAW 5.21-26.2015

Hello New York,
Does anyone else feel as if Memorial Day Weekend this year came out of nowhere and prematurely? It’s usually the last weekend of May and I feel little unprepared to “kick start” the summer.

The big news this week is definitely the final weekend of the Brooklyn Night Bazaar and the opening weekend of Riis Park beach Bazaar. I grew up in Queens and have always been a big fan of Rockaway and Riis Park beach with frequent visits for many years. I am personally very excited about the marriage of Brooklyn Bazaar and Riis Park Beach and this will bring out what the best of NYC has to offer for a fun summer. The opening of RPBB is presented by The Agency Group (I was an intern there for a summer in 1999!) bringing you 3 days of free music with: MOTHXR, Avan Lava, Religia, Banker$ DJ on Saturday, French Horn Rebellion, Mainland, Violet Sands, DJ Lady Guy on Sunday and Computer Magic, Heavenly Beat, Nicholas Nicholas & Double Trouble Double Dragon DJ’s on Monday. For ALL upcoming Riis Park Beach Bazaar schedule, please visit or keep checking back on

Riis Bazaar 5.22_24.2015

“Just as the Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a new take on the traditional flea market, Riis Park Beach Bazaar re-imagines the beach experience along Jacob Riis Park’s historic waterfront. Riis Park Beach Bazaar hosts seasonal activities, entertainment and shopping, with food and beverage concessions brought to you by NY’s favorite inter-borough taste-makers. This cultural component — combined with the natural sea, sun and sand, is the recipe for a unique beach experience, unlike any other.”

Beach + Market + Food + Games + Music + City Skyline = Perfect NYC Summer

The final Brooklyn Night Bazaar this weekend is presented by TimeOut Live with FREE live performance by Priests, Greys, Skating Polly & Done on Friday night + Perfect Pussy, Big Ups, Vulture Shit, Nine of Swords & Nonsense on Saturday night. Be sure to attend and help celebrate the closing of this historical institution that is Brooklyn Night Bazaar who have been working so hard to bring us the amazing quality of free music for the past few years.

This Friday is the annual very UNhappy birthday celebration for Morrissey: “At Last I Am Born” with The Sons & Heirs (A Tribute to The Smiths & Morrissey) at The Bell House. Along with The Sons & Heirs, the special guest performances are Lower Wolves (A Tribute to Early REM) & Doug Gillard (Guided By Voices, Nada Surf). The Sons & Heirs Morrissey Bday celebration shows always sells out, get your advance tickets before it is too late! $12 Limited Early Advance Tickets, $14 adv., $18 d.o.s.

Lastly, after the successful opening of Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco last week, they are back this Friday with a “Xanadu” theme skate party at Lakeside. $18 includes admission and skate rentals. Get advance tickets HERE before it sells out!

Hello New York City,
With Spring finally here, we have tons of exciting events this week, but first I would like to share exciting news, in conjunction with a sad news. We have been working with our beloved Brooklyn Night Bazaar since day one in 2011 and have been with them on their promotional programs ever since. After few venue changes, Brooklyn Night Bazaar finally found a good home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and flourished in the past 2 years being named “The Best Music Venue of 2014” from TimeOut NY. Unfortunately all the fun and free music that is BK Bazaar is coming to an end next week as another great venue bites the dust.  The silver lining is that this will NOT be the last you hear from the team of Brooklyn Night Bazaar – behold the launch of Riis Park Beach Bazaar! Ironically enough to open on the same day as the last Night Bazaar on Saturday May 23, 2015, Memorial Day Weekend.

From the Bazaar team:
“We are proud to announce that the National Park Service has granted Brooklyn Bazaar a five-year lease to develop programming, food and beverage services at Jacob Riis Park Beach beginning Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, May 23) 2015. Just as the Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a new take on the traditional flea market, Riis Park Beach Bazaar will reimagine the beach experience on Jacob Riis Park’s historic and pristine waterfront. We look forward to hosting abundant activities, entertainment, shopping, food and drinks, which when combined with the sea and sun, will result in a New York beach experience unlike any other.”  Click HERE for a listing of all the dates of Riis Park Beach Bazaar events to plan your summer around.

This weekend at their new location is Defalco Presents with Breakdown Brass Band, Gedeon Luke and The People, Saun and Starr (CD Release Show), Ismael and the Radiant Select on Friday and T Presents A Place to Bury Strangers, Sleepies, Pill and Bambara on Saturday. With only 2 weeks left to Brooklyn Night Bazaar, the next two weekends will be historical.

Bazaar 5.15-16.2015

This Friday is the return of Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco presents Flashdance Skate Party at Lakeside! “Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco parties will begin with a Flashdance themed party on May 15th and continue every Friday night! Costumes that embody the glitz and glam of the 1980’s are strongly encouraged at all Dreamland Roller Disco Parties.” Featuring DJ Momotaro, Miss Saturn’s hula hopping magic, costume contest, skate dance competition!! $18 includes admission and skate rentals, get advance tickets HERE before it sells out! To see all the upcoming Dreamland Roller Disco dates and themes, check out !

On Saturday, the kooky Kostume Kult is back with Black & Light Ball 2015 – Androids Dream of Electric Sheep at Santos Party House.  With DJs on two floors, art activities, and more, tickets are going very fast. The $25/30 tickets are already sold out, get your advance tickets HERE!

Good bye Brooklyn Night bazaar, Hello Riis Park Beach Bazaar!

SHAW Promotion has been working with Brooklyn Night Bazaar since day one in 2011. Starting with the few one-off events on Flatbush Ave to the grand opening in Williamsburg in 2012 and the grand opening in the new Greenpoint location, we were always there every step of the way.  When I found out that my beloved Brooklyn Night Bazaar, which also happens to be around the corner from my home is closing at the end of May, I was completely disappointed to know another amazing venue is getting pushed out in the North Brooklyn.

This is the official statement from Brooklyn Night Bazaar:
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the Brooklyn Night Bazaar will be vacating its home of almost 2 years as of June 1. The building owner of 29 Norman Avenue has reached a deal with a large multinational company that included an enormous rent increase we could not possibly match. While we are excited to be starting our inaugural summer Riis Park Beach Bazaar this Memorial Day weekend, we are saddened and extremely disappointed to lose a space we built from the ground up and poured our heart and soul into over the years. In the end, the ever skyrocketing cost of Brooklyn real estate was something that made staying at this location an impossibility. A big shout out and thanks to all the incredible bands, rad vendors, killer food stands, creative artists, great staff, and the hundreds of thousands of visitors that made BKNB a truly unique and special place. We’ll miss you all. We are continuing to look at new spaces for the next incarnation of Brooklyn Night Bazaar. This is the third time since 2011 we’ve been booted out of somewhere for someone bigger with a shit ton more money. It sucks, but that’s what happens when you’re a DIY business in 2015 NYC. But we’ll come back, we always do.  The last BKNB shows will be May 22 and May 23.”

With an end of an era, often something else awesome will come along and this is exactly the case for the good peoples at the Bazaar brand. Behold the launch of Riis Park Beach Bazaar!!! Damn these people move quick and get yourself ready for a summer to remember and many more to come in my hometown, Queens!

Riis Park Beach Bazaar 2015

From the Bazaar team:
“We are proud to announce that the National Park Service has granted Brooklyn Bazaar a five-year lease to develop programming, food and beverage services at Jacob Riis Park Beach beginning Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, May 23) 2015. Just as the Brooklyn Night Bazaar is a new take on the traditional flea market, Riis Park Beach Bazaar will reimagine the beach experience on Jacob Riis Park’s historic and pristine waterfront. We look forward to hosting abundant activities, entertainment, shopping, food and drinks, which when combined with the sea and sun, will result in a New York beach experience unlike any other.”

Of course, Riis Park Beach Bazaar will feature all kinds of interactive beach activities as well. Areas of the beach and boardwalk will host everything from beach volleyball, sand soccer, ultimate frisbee, touch football, street and inline hockey, paddleball, and much more. Beginning on May 20th, every Wednesday features the Rockaway Volleyball League. Additional events such as a sand sculpting competition, kite flying festival, 5K & 10K races, wine and craft beer festivals, car expos and more are planned.

Riis Park Beach Bazaar Saturdays and Sundays will also feature multiple pop up merchant vendors along the boardwalk, displaying their arts and crafts, antiques, new and vintage clothing, sunglasses, jewelry and records. In addition, there will be service oriented vendors such as nail artists, tattoo artists, hair stylists, tarot readers and many others. Local Rockaway father and son team Steven and Christian, both original NYC surfers, will operate a permanent sundries standon the boardwalk.

We are working on making the trip to Riis Park Beach Bazaar a breeze, including dedicated bus shuttles throughout NYC, increased ferry service to nearby Riis Landing, and plenty of car share options. Beach chair and umbrella rentals will be available. Beachgoers will even be able to order food and drink directly to their beach chairs using a smartphone! Custom beach passes will also feature package deals including bus/ferry shuttle service, food, drinks, games and beach chair rental. We’re excited.”
