Hello My Dear Readers,
The Red Bull Music Academy is taking a break this week and will pick back up on May 19th, but it doesn’t mean we don’t have another great week for ya. Let’s start with our baby, the forever growing Bootie NYC party, presented by SHAW Promotion & Bootie. The Bootie 90′s edition has been widely popular in Bootie SF & Bootie LA and this is the first time in NYC and I predict it will be one of our biggest. Be sure to get there early to catch the live mashup band MORE COWBELL (Austin TX) on stage at 11:30 PM and we have FREE Bootie mashup CDs to the first 100 people through the door. The early bird tickets are sold out but you can still get your advance tickets HERE!

Moving on with the parties this week. On Wednesday, we have a secret SAVOY show at a TBD venue. Get your limited tickets now and the venue will be unveiled the day of the event, which is today. Check back on the secret location!

On Friday, we have Brillz, Sigma & Monsta at Girls & Boys party upstairs at Webster Hall and Trash! at The Studio in the basement and BASSment Saturdays with Evol Intent. We also have a very special “2013 Hello Taiwan East Coast Tour” on Saturday at Drom featuring some great bands from Taiwan and NYC touring their way through the East Coast. Check out the listing info for the bands and go check out this one of it’s kind rock touring package.

For Sunday, we have your invite to the Unofficial EDC Afterparty, “Rabbit Whole“  at Le Poisson Rouge for all you festival heads who can’t get enough. Featuring Bunny and many more great DJs & dancers and a VERY SPECIAL SURPRISE GUEST.  We can not say who it is but it will be a big deal!!  This night consumes both rooms of LPR and goes until the wee hours of the morning.  Not to miss, especially if you can’t get over to Electric Daisey Carnival.

Lastly, we are gearing up for our “SHAW Me the Tickets” for the summer and we are starting with a BANG! We have one pair of tickets to giveaway for the upcoming “Coney Island Laser Shows presents “Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon 40th Anniversary” (on the boardwalk!) on Sunday, June 1st. There are so many great parties and festival happening all over New York City, it’s really hard to keep up with everything. But of course that’s why we are here to help and let you know who’s where and what’s up. We have been knee deep working and marketing for the Red Bull Music Academy Series which has taken over the whole city (including Queens & BK) with amazing performers, music, art & lectures. This Thursday is the “Culture Clash” event featuring Federation Sound vs Trouble & Bass vs Just Blaze & Young Guru vs Que Bajo?!. Holy crap, it’s May! Summer is just around the corner which obviously means NYC is finally worth living in because of the great parties and festivals that run rampant almost every day for the next 4 months. For example, the Red Bull Music Academy kicked off this past weekend and is now in full swing with a total of 38 events until the end of May with endless amazing talents and shows. This week they are producing “Drone Activity In Progress”, Flying Lotus at Terminal 5, “The Bunker”, Brian Eno’s “77 Million Paintings” opening and MORE!

What’s that you say? That’s not enough and you want more festivals?! You’re just in luck because the Downtown Music Festival is coming next week: “2 DAYS – BIG MUSIC – SMALL STAGES”. Click on the banner below for more info on this bad ass mutha.

Moving on, this week our friend Webster Hall is coming strong with massive parties. This Friday is “The Age of Reason Tour” with Gramatik, Cherub & Herobust and is gonna be bananas. I always love the “Glamdammit” parties and this month they are celebrating the 40th anniversary of “Aladdin Sane” with performances from Youthquake, The Brats & Michael T and The Vanities.

Still chilly here, aye? We just got back from a road trip traveling to Kentucky for a wedding where we drove through 10 states, 2 national parks, drove almost the entire Blue ridge Parkway & the whole Skyline Drive in Virginia. The weather was warm, the drive was beautiful, and I was really hoping to get back to NYC for Spring weather, however for some reason, I still have my winter coat on. BRR!! At least today is good weather. Well, at least we are home in time to kick off the Red Bull Music Academy series in NYC with 38 events over the course of the month of May. We have all the details for this below, so keep reading!

But first, I would like to start this week’s newsletter with a giveaway, but it’s not tickets. The full lineup for the upcoming Apple Stomp NYC Ska Festival at Irving Plaza has been announced and the tickets are on-sale now. What a beautiful weekend! The city really came to life with the sun out and shining and everyone out drinking their iced coffees, showing off their sun deprived legs. SHAW is also in full Spring mode as well as we are getting busy with work from many of the upcoming festivals and events that rock our Summer, which can only mean good news for you in terms of ticket giveaways. Le Poisson Rouge is always packed with amazing events, but one of our favorite is definitely the monthly night of “Macaulay Culkin’s iPod” and it’s happening this week. Macaulay is known for his fun antics with this party, however this installment comes with a delightful twist as he is passing the iPod manning duties over to his youngest brother presenting “Rory Culkin’s iPod“!! Love! The party is FREE as always and comes highly recommended by yours truly.

Speaking of monthly affairs, we also have the return of Down & Derby Roller Disco with Rok One, Justin Strauss & Mike Dextro on Friday at SRB, Brooklyn. Spring is in the air so grab a date, grab your friends, grab your skates and get down on this roller disco party!

Last Saturday was the opening date for Williamsburg’s Smorgasburg at East River Park and it was a mad house packed with tons of people and even more delightful variety of foods. This is definitely something fun for the whole family, but unfortunately this year it is NOT dog friendly, so be sure to leave your pouches at home. Yawn! Greenpointers.com has a petition up on their site to rally for a dog park installment at the park. We hope you sign it so our favorite hounds can enjoy the grassy knoll as well. If you are planning on checking out Smorgasburg, be sure to check out our dear friend Queen Majesty’s hot sauce booth where she herself is selling hot sauce made and packaged by no other than the one and only DJ Queen Majesty! #QMHotsauce

On a personal note.
I never thought I would get into the promotion and marketing business; I contribute this path much to my early music career, especially the experiences with my first ska band that I started in the 90′s called Metro Stylee. Unfortunately, Metro Stylee broke up in 1999 after a few years of great success, but thankfully launched me into the SHAW Promotion business. Fast forward 13 years later, we are finally provided with an opportunity for a reunion show and the timing seems right. It is my pleasure to announce that Metro Stylee is getting back together to play in the upcoming Apple Stomp SKA Festival on May 31 – June 1 at Irving Plaza. This will not only be historical and remarkable show, it will also be a massive reunion for so many of old friends. I am beyond words with this opportunity and want to thank Adam & Anita Fachler of Bronx Underground & Live Nation, Matt Flood of Asbestos Records and Coolie Ranks of Pilfers for making this happen for us. This is very special to me and we are all looking forward to it!
