“The Deli’s 10th Anniversary w Drowners & Diane Birch at BK Bazaar, Glamdammit w Midnight Mob, Gotham Girls Roller Derby Triple Header, Fixed w Simian Mobile Disco and MORE”

Hello New York,
Before I start this week’s events I want to say RIP Jeffrey Tonnesen and give my condolences to his family. I met Jeffrey through a mutual friend, Justine D, many years back and although I never got a chance to become close friends, I have always respect his DJ work and contribution to our industry. Jeffery’s sudden passing was a shock to us all and a reminder that life is beautiful and fragile. Let’s all love each other and live life to the fullest. RIP Jeffrey Tonnesen.

If glam and rock ‘n roll is more your pace for Saturday, Twig the Wonderkid is back with his monthly Glamdammit party “Girls, Girls, Girls” edition with some of the top female fronted bands in NYC. Lastly, The Deli Magazine (emerging music from your local scene) will be celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary this weekend at none other than the one and only, Brooklyn Night Bazaar. What better way to present you a fun free party with great vibes and tons of fun options. I was at BK Bazaar last week and they have added air hockey, pool tables, Jenga games, and a photo booth in addition to the miniature golf, arcades, and ping pong tables. Performing live on Friday is Drowners, Spires, Mainland, The Can’t Tells & Little Racer. On Saturday, The Deli will bring you Luluc, Secret Someones, The Prettiots, Poor Remy and the headliner Diane Birch.  I met Diane Birch back in 2010 at the 6th Annual Paper Mag Night Life Awards when we were both the presenters for the Best NYC Club category. Diane was such a lovely girl and we had tons of fun on stage together. I am glad she is doing well with her music career and helping The Deli celebrate their 10th year. Go see all the bands for free this weekend!!

Hey New York,
It’s hard to believe it’s already mid-summer; I need the warm weather to be here so much longer. So many of my friends are moving out West that I wonder what it would be like to move SHAW Promotion to the other coast, but I just can’t imagine leaving my friends and family and NYC behind. Who knows what the future will bring, but in the meantime I just love this city and take a full advantage of all the inspiring and wonderful things it has to offer.

There are a few events I look forward to every summer in NYC and one of them is definitely The Rock ‘n Roll Luau #7 by our good friend, Laura, of Rebel Angel Productions. This year’s Luau will be this coming Saturday at The Paper Box with a full day of rockabilly, psychobilly, Rock ‘n Roll mayhem, art, Kustom Kulture, and motorcycles. The Luau starts at 3PM with bands from all over North America at 3 stages: Surf Stage, Tiki Stage, and Pink Flamingo Stage, plus tons of raffles prizes and giveaways. This event will sell out quickly, so get your advance tickets NOW!  I will definitely be there and I hope to see you too!

After a successful Noisey/Vice edition of Brooklyn Night Bazaar last week, Noisey is back once again this weekend with another rocking free show. Friday they feature Dave Hause  (former Loved One and Paint It Blacker returns to Brooklyn for a full band set with Brendan Hill [The Curse, 'Resolutions'] on drums, Michael “Spider” Cotterman [The Loved Ones, Kid Dynamite] on bass, Pete Steinkopf [The Bouncing Souls] on guitar, and Tim Hause on keys.). Click HERE for all the info and bands for both Brooklyn Bazaar nights!

On Friday night Caffeine Events & Bass Connection will bring you “!” with Justin Prime (a rare NYC appearance), Darren Styles, The Pitcher, Gammer, Star Eyes, Jubilee and much much more at the Melrose Ballroom in Long Island City, Queens. Get tickets HERE.  If you don’t feel like trecking out to Queens, JDH & David P of Fixed is back at their favor place, Le Bain at The Standard Hotel this Friday. The party is free, but you need to say “FIXED” or “JDH & Dave P” at the door for your easy entry!

Lastly, on Sunday one of my favorite punk bands growing up Subhumans is playing at Le Poisson Rouge, presented by Rocks Off. I used to proudly displayed their patch on the back of my leather jacket back in college and I’m thrilled to finally catch them live.  Thank you LPR for the guest list, I can’t wait to get my Subhumans on this Sunday. Oi!

Thank you for reading and I hope to see you out!

Hello New York,
I am back from Los Angeles with it’s awesome weather, hiking, beaches, ridiculous nightlife antics, sitting in a pool, and watching “Jurassic Park” at Silver Lake Picture Show on Sunset Blvd)– our mini Summer Screen sister out West. Besides all that, I’m happy to be back and ready to get into the NYC Summer grind (although I will miss those working by the pool days). I am going to start out this week’s newsletter with one of my favorite things to do:  “SHAW ME THE TICKETS”  giveaway contest -  Gotham Girls Roller Derby – Brooklyn Bombshells VS Manhattan Mayhem style. This Saturday’s bout will be at Abe Stark Skating Arena in Coney Island which makes a perfect backdrop to a Tinder/Grinder date, or whatever you kids are doing these days. You can get your $19.99 tickets HERE or RSVP for your chance to win ridiculous easy tickets. If you haven’t been, you have to check out these super fast, kick-ass women on skates and enjoy a day in beautiful Coney Island, USA. Go on, click on that button below…

While we are on the subject of kick ass women, our friend, Tessa Makes Love, will be be performing live with her band at Marlin Room at Webster Hall. I had the pleasure to watch her solo show a year ago and just loved her unique style, memorizing voice, and adorable stage antics.

Tessa Makes Love is a New York band compared to Portishead, Grace Jones, and Tom Waits. TML is fronted by the Russian-born singer and classical pianist Tessa Lena whose bio reads like a Hollywood movie: From escaping a sex trafficker in China to being accused of being a Russian spy in Chicago to working with her favorite rock stars, it’s a life she never thought she would be living when she was growing up as a classical music nerd in Moscow. Tessa’s favorite artist is Angélique Kidjo.

This Friday, July 18th, show will be with her full band featuring world class musicians Mark Greenberg on drums, Jonathan Levy on bass and Kane Mathis on oud.  Tessa Makes Love goes on at PM, get your $10 advanced, get tickets HERE!

Noisey (Music by Vice) will be presenting Brooklyn Night Bazaar this weekend with Ceremony, Iron Lung, Nothing and Trap Them, Coliseum, Incendiary and White Widows Pact. As always, both Friday and Saturday nights are FREE with arcade, miniature golf, ping-pong, and a variety of local Brooklyn vendors that will fill up your stomach and liver.  YAY!!

On Saturday, Rebel Night NYC and Dances Of Vice, which are two of my favorite party producers will join forces to bring you “Hula Rock“. This party will bring you music from the full-throttle soul screamer Barrence Whitfield, vintage car and hot rod show, traditional Japanese BBQ from Inglorivs Yakitorivs, burlesque dances, limbo contest, all night record hops and much more!! If I didn’t have a show with Bikini Carwash at Lit the same night, I would totally be there. Click HERE for Hula Rock details!

There are two Fixed NYC parties this week with Jon Hopkins (live) at Le Poisson Rouge & Medlar (US Debut) at Cameo GalleryQueen Majesty‘s Baby’s All Right debut “Zion Gate” party and two Bikini Carwash shows at Lit with The Goodnight Darlings and Blackout Stereo, and at Otto’s Shrunken Head as a part of Frank Wood’s Mid-Summer Wind Down Sunday. Please check out the rest of the newsletter or our calendar for all event details.

I will leave you with some photos taken in LA from our trip to California. I’m a 100% New Yorker, but you just got to love Cali and its greatness.  Below is photos from: Joshua Tree National Park, Good Times at Davey Waynes night club rooftop rollerskating, a Jeff Goldblum jazz session, and kiddie pool on the back of a 1967 Ford Ranchero birthday party in Joshua Tree National Park.  I love you LA!
